Hi, my name is Lauren Ritchie and I am the creator and writer of The Damsel.

 

We are a news site for men and women that focuses solely on the fight for equal rights for women around the world.

 

I am a feminist.

 

No, this does not mean I hate men.

 

I just believe men and women should be treated the same.

 

Is that really a big, scary ask?

 

Does that make me a radical, to want everyone in the world to be treated the same? 

 

I am a feminist because I do not think it is right for a woman to walk down a dark street in fear, I feel women should have the rights to do whatever they wish with their bodies, it scares me deeply that we blame the victim of rape rather than the rapist, I think women’s looks and body shape are constantly under the microscope and I think women should be equal with men in wage and job positions.

 

But above all, I think it is our responsibility  as women in western society to use the power of the media to not only help ourselves but women in countries where they do not even have a voice.
